Resumo

Este artigo engloba-se de uma revisão narrativa da literatura atual, e tem como objetivo revisar estudos recentes sobre o transtorno afetivo bipolar para auxiliar a prática clínica e demonstrar a importante relação entre o transtorno bipolar e o suicídio. Os trabalhos analisados concordam que o Transtorno Bipolar (TB) está relacionado a altas taxas de suicídio e autoagressão. A combinação de tratamento farmacológico e apoio psicossocial, priorizando o lítio quando o risco de suicídio é alto, é uma estratégia alinhada com a literatura. Os artigos utilizados mostram um consenso sobre a alta prevalência e o impacto social do TB, além dos períodos críticos de vulnerabilidade e a relevância do diagnóstico precoce. As divergências aparecem, principalmente, nas estratégias de prevenção e nas abordagens terapêuticas personalizadas.
